INVITING KIDS TO THE WEDDING.

It’s International Children’s Day so I decided to write a blog post about these little creatures. The discussion of whether to invite children to a wedding always becomes a passionate one. I have to say that I really enjoy when kids are part of the wedding (but not too many). These little flower girls and ring-bearers take their job seriously. Girls feel like princesses in their beautiful dresses and boys are just adorable wearing their mini tuxedos. I love to watch their eyes light up when they see the bride in her wedding dress for the first time.

I can tell they just can’t wait to grow up and become a beautiful bride or groom themselves. Also, they are never too far from a wedding cake and ask so many times during the day if it’s finally time to cut it. 🙂 Did I mentioned that the kids have the best time on the dance floor? Not everyone thinks that child-free weddings are cool so check out some tips bellow to help make the process go smoothly. When I shoot a wedding I always wish Andre (my son) was there with me. Well, maybe when he grows up a little I can make him my little photography assistant. Here are some tips to help you be more prepared.

1. MAKE IT CLEAR WHO’S INVITED

Parents often don’t know if their children are or are not invited to the wedding. Please be absolutely clear about this so that people can RSVP accordingly. If you are planning to include and invite children, adding the words “and family” to the invitation envelope indicates as much.

2. THE CEREMONY

Bring their favorite food/toys/comforter/ipad to keep them happy and entertained. My advice: give all children the same gift. You don’t want anyone to be fighting over a box of markers.

3. KID’S MEAL

Most kids like to eat simple foods like mac and cheese, chicken or pasta, so save yourself a headache and extra dollars and keep it simple. Receptions can last for a long time so keep in mind that your littlest guests might not be so impressed with those smoked salmon blinis. Also, make sure to ask your caterers to provide juice/soft drinks in child friendly cups or cartons of juice.

4. STAY CALM

Despite a fear that your guests will ask you to bring their children to your wedding don’t freak out. Kids can bring so much joy to a wedding. Kids are some of the most adorable, winsome little creatures and can add the most magical moments to your special day.

So to all the kids out there, wishing you a very happy Children’s day!!
